The U.S. Republican Party has nominated Mitt Romney as its candidate to challenge Democratic incumbent Barack Obama in this year’s November 6 presidential election.
The decision was made during a roll call of delegates at the party’s convention in Tampa, Florida, on Tuesday.
Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, 42, who Romney chose as his running mate Ryan, an adherent of the conservative Tea Party movement, chairs the U.S. House of Representatives Budget Committee.
Obama will be formally nominated for re-election next week at the Democratic Party's convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.
