The Russian Federation and the U.S. have a common understanding that an international conference on Syria should be held in Geneva; the issue of participation of top officials isn’t discussed, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking to the "Voice of Russia".

"We have a general understanding that the conference should be held in Geneva, where the foundations for the current process were laid, - said the minister, talking to journalists after a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.
The Russian foreign minister added that the main thing was for the Syrian opposition and the government to voice readiness to support the initiative of holding this conference.
In early May, on the outcome of talks with Kerry Lavrov said that the parties agreed to speedily convene an international conference on Syria in follow up to the meeting in Geneva, which took place on June 30, 2012.
A number of EU countries have agreed to hold the forum.
