DAMASCUS, September 18 (RIA Novosti) – A Russian Foreign Ministry official met with Syria’s President Bashar Assad in Damascus on Wednesday, the Russian Embassy’s press attaché in the country told RIA Novosti.

No details of what Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and President Assad discussed at the meeting were revealed.

However, the Embassy said that on Tuesday, Ryabkov had spent several hours in talks with the Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem.

Tuesday’s negotiations touched on the Russian-US plan to place Syrian chemical weapons stockpiles under international control.
