US, Russia Maintain Contact to Ease Tensions, Ensure Safety in Syria
Published 18-07-2017, 18:17
US and Russian forces are coordinating air strikes in Syria on a daily basis and in the process easing tensions between the two nations, US Department of Defense spokeswoman Michelle Baldanza told Sputnik.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The discussions have proven effective at ensuring the safety of coalition aircrews and operations and mitigating strategic miscalculations, Baldanza explained.

"The coalition and Russians communicate daily through the de-confliction channel to ensure we maintain situational awareness of each other's forces and operations," Baldanza stated on Monday, referring to the US-led coalition acting in Syria.

Without elaborating Baldanza added that daily contacts had also helped de-escalate tensions between the two nations.
