Published 21-07-2017, 18:13
The overwhelming majority of the Russian citizens considers the Russian leadership should seek to improve relations with the US, a poll showed Friday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the Moscow-based Public Opinion Foundation (FOM), 39 percent of the respondents consider US-Russia relations to be bad, whereas only 9 percent believe them to be good.

Speaking about the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump on July 7, 35 percent of those surveyed said that the presidents managed to reach understanding. Twenty-four percent felt that the meeting went in the opposite direction.

Ask whether this meeting will help to improve bilateral relations, 40 percent of the respondents agreed with this statement, while 28 percent said that nothing will change.

The poll was conducted on July 15-16 and involved 1,500 respondents across Russia.

Since 2014, relations between Russia and the United States deteriorated amid the crisis in Ukraine. Washington and their allies have introduced several rounds of anti-Russia sanctions since Crimea became part of Russia in 2014 and over Moscow's alleged involvement in the Ukrainian conflict. Russia has repeatedly refuted the allegations, warning that the Western sanctions are counterproductive and undermine global stability.
