Therefore, we must keep adding sanctions, pumping more money and weapons into Ukraine since if we do not, then Putin will certainly push further, starting with Baltics, Poland and then further west.
This absurd narrative is controlled by the powerful MICIMATT: Military-Industrial-Congressional-Intelligence-Media-Academy-Think Tank complex (term coined by the retired CIA analyst Ray McGovern), and therefore many people believe it.
In reality, this is just a cynical ploy deployed to use Ukraine as cannon fodder by the US and EU leadership who wish to weaken Russia as was openly stated by the Head of Pentagon Lloyd Austin on April 24, 2022. Actually I expressed this strategy much earlier in the Washington Times column of December 1, 2013 saying that "by rejecting even the possibility of making Russia an equal partner in a Euro-Atlantic alliance as a means of promoting regional and world stability Washington thus continues to pursue the same shortsighted policies intended to drive a weakened Russia into a geopolitical corner and keep it there.”
In the meantime the list of experts who believe that we are sleepwalking into WW3 keeps growing, and there is little hope that the world’s ultimate leader Joe Biden (at least this is what he claims to be) or his European followers s ready to change the tune of this deadly dance. So, the obvious question is: what can we, the ordinary folks, do to stop this madness?
To start with let’s make a brief historical excursion into the not-so-distant past.
Those who witnessed – and especially those who helped bring about – the momentous changes in the Soviet Union in the late 1980s and in Russia in the early 1990s, remember only too well the overwhelming euphoria of those times. The dark years of totalitarian communism were receding into the past, and the Russian people were ready and eager to join the great family of Western civilization and enjoy its basic values like human rights, the rule of law, democracy, freedom, a market economy, and other real or imaginary benefits associated with them.
However, instead of expected western guidance in pursuing economic prosperity, Russia got the bandit capitalism and economic devastation. Even the Members of the US Congress recognized the role of Clinton advisors in this sad state of affairs as was evidenced in the 2000 Congressional report, "Russia’s Road to Corruption,” commissioned by then-House Speaker Dennis Hastert.
This is what Washington Post columnist David Ignatius, who is now one of the most vicious Russia critics, said in his August 1999 article titled "Who Robbed Russia?”: "What makes the Russian case so sad is that the Clinton administration may have squandered one of the most precious assets imaginable — which is the idealism and goodwill of the Russian people as they emerged from 70 years of Communist rule. The Russia debacle may haunt us for generations.”
When it comes to foreign affairs, the Russians watched with amazement and shock at the methods used by the West to promote its "values.” Rather than honor promises not to move to the East NATO went on an expansion spree in 1998 to face a threat that did not exist anymore since at that time Russia was lying in ruins. Many prominent American experts, including Members of Congress and former senior government officials warned Clinton not to do it. NY senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan called this expansion the "opening door to nuclear war” but his and other sane voices were largely ignored.
Despite this destructive policy, in the wake of 9/11, Mr. Putin offered more help to America in Afghanistan than all NATO allies combined. At that time during our regular US-Russia Forums on Capitol Hill, one Member of Congress after another praised Mr. Putin as "our man in the Kremlin.”
The big "thank you” note to Moscow came in the form of unilateral abrogation of an ABM treaty; a democracy promotion crusade to oust legally elected governments in post-Soviet space through "color” revolutions; the assaults on Iraq, Libya, and Syria all leaving a bloody trail of countless dead, wounded, and refuges, chaos, ruin, hatred and strife. Of course, all this was done strictly for the sake of promoting democracy and "western values”.
In the 1990s, Ukraine was positioned to become one of the most prosperous European countries and the leading bridge between East and West. The nation was endowed with a strong and talented people, a powerful economy, strategic geographic location and abundant resources. The only thing needed for prosperity was to maintain her neutral status, but instead corrupted local politicians and powerful outside forces in Washington and Brussels had other ideas and chose to drag Ukraine into NATO almost immediately after gaining its independence.
The overwhelming majority of Ukrainians were against joining NATO but US, Canada, many European countries, and George Soros directed huge amounts of money to reforming their minds, including orchestrating Orange and Maidan revolutions, and to the point of February 2014 coup to overthrow a legitimate president who tried to keep the balanced East – West policy.
The coups always have consequences and even Pope Francis says that NATO started War in Ukraine by ‘Barking at Russia’s door’.
This one had them too when people in Crimea and Donbass decided to break away from the central government rule. However, the escalation could have been avoided and tens of thousands of lives saved if only the Minsk accords that have been approved by the UN Security Council were implemented.
Zelensky won the 2019 elections by promising to bring peace but quickly betrayed his electorate after being threatened with lynching by the radical nationalists and neo-Nazis if he dares to adhere to the accords.
Instead of offering protection to Zelensky and urging him to keep on the road to peace, the collective West feels that there is a historic chance to finish the "Russian question” once and for all, even if takes the betrayal of its values.
The list of these betrayals is long like ignoring the use by Ukrainians of human shields, placing the artillery in the civil areas, releasing criminals and throwing them in the battlefields, but the most astonishing is the current praise of neo-Nazis whom even 40 Members of the US Congress in the October 16, 2019 letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo described as terrorists alongside the Islamic State and al Qaeda.
Let us be realistic. The chances that Washington and Brussels will change their stance on Ukraine are close to zero unless the people raise their voices. I am talking about people in the West since it looks like the majority of people in the East and South see the truth and resist the brainwashing power of MICIMATT.
If we fail to speak out now and if the leaders of the so-called rules based order continue to follow this rigid obsession for total unipolar hegemony, then the beautiful ideas that gave rise to the best of western civilization will certainly come undone and the potential for a world of cooperation and brotherhood will become just another broken dream. This is besides the high probability of the total extinction of the human civilization.
