Russian presidential chief-of-staff Sergei Ivanov has admitted he sees no prospects at the moment for reaching an agreement with the United States on missile defense issues.
"I do not yet see any light at the end of the tunnel" in this discussion with the U.S., Ivanov said in an interview with the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper published on Tuesday.
"The configuration of global forces or security remains unchanged. We have to take this into consideration. I would like to tell you that we bear it in mind as we plan and develop appropriate systems of weapons. We have no other choice," he said.
Russia uninterested in US arms reduction proposals – official
Russia has upgraded its strategic nuclear forces and is no more interested in US arms reduction proposals, said the Russian presidential staff head, Sergei Ivanov.
He said in an interview that the Komsomolskaya Pravda daily carries in its today’s issue that Russia has developed and tested all modern-day new-generation nuclear forces.
Sergei Ivanov said that Russia now has a new naval missile and a new submarine, up-to-date intercontinental ballistic missiles YARS and TOPOL-M, as well as other modern-day weapons.
Now, it’s been a long time since the United States last upgraded its own armaments, according to Ivanov, so it is easier for Washington to reduce its arsenals.
