The two men were meeting within the framework of a forum of the ASEAN (Association of SouthEast Asian Nations) in Brunei's capital Bandar Seri Begawan.
"I hope that this meeting will give us one more opportunity to assess the state of relations between our two countries, which are now rapidly developing, and to outline plans for the future,” Sergei Lavrov said. "I am glad that you, Mr. Wang, at the post of China's Foreign Minister, are keeping the traditions of friendly relations between Russia and China. Let me assure you that Russia wants to preserve friendly relations with China as well.”

This is the first official talks between them, although Mr. Lavrov and Mr. Wang have often met before.
Lavrov: "You became China's Foreign Minister only several months ago, Mr. Wang, but I am glad that at this post, you are keeping the old traditions of friendly relations between our two countries."
Wang: "My colleagues have spoken of you as of a talanted and a matter-of-fact man, Mr. Lavrov. You have many admirers in China – probably no less than you have in your country. I must confess that I am even a bit envious that you have so many admirers!"
