The French actor, who received his passport directly from Russian President Vladimir Putin’s hands less than two weeks ago, said the opposition has no program.
"The Russian opposition has no program, nothing, there are some very smart people like [World Chess Champion Garry] Kasparov, but this is only good for chess and that’s it. And politics is a lot more complicated,” he said.
The actor said that the French love to criticize, and used Pussy Riot as an example.
"Imagine if the women entered a mosque, they would not have gone out of there alive. Even in a Catholic world it would have been scary. But when I say this in France, they think I am an idiot,” Depardieu said.
"Unfortunately, the masses are stupid, only an individual is beautiful, especially when one is fearless,” the actor said.
He also talked a little about his appreciation for Russian classical art, from writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky to conductor Valery Gergiev.
