The campus will combine facilities for five leading Russian universities, including the Plekhanov Economics Institute and the MISiS National Research University, along with the Federal Center for Sports Medicine and Training.
The campus will occupy an area of over 40 hectares and offer housing for up to three thousand students. It is designed to incorporate some of the country’s fastest growing higher education institutions.
"[We’re] planning to build new educational facilities, a congress center, sports complex, student dorms and faculty housing around Domodedovo [as a response to] the growing scope and specter of these universities’ activities in education and research,” Plekhanov University Vice-Rector for Administration Anatoly Govorin told RBTH.
While over a billion dollars will come from federal coffers, officials hope the remainder of investments will be covered by businessmen Victor Vekselberg, Oleg Deripaska, Mikhail Prokhorov and Petr Aven, all members of the Russian Geographical Society, a possible sponsor of the initiative.
